Silver (Majestic Beauty)
Waldport, Oregon
A Loving Dedication & Memorial

silver smallThe phone rang at my home--this was the call I had been waiting for at least five years or more. There was a young blue male greyhound waiting at the track for me to pick up. Four hours later I saw the most beautiful greyhound I had ever seen--ninety pounds of blue elegant beauty. He had golden eyes and the biggest purple nose I had ever seen. Of course this was only the third blue hound I had been close to.

His racing name was Iron Cricky but he became Silver to all who knew and loved him. Inside this great dog was a clown, a hound that could be gentle with the oldest most frail patient in the nursing home he and Blue Mint Magic visited twice a month. Quiet and loving some of the time and never happier than when he could make life a living hell for the cats! Silver was also a great PR dog.

I had many people who came to our dog showings just to visit him. He led the people in awe over to us while the other graceful, beautiful greyhounds showed everyone that color was only in the fur--all greys were equally gentle, kind and loving. With Silver's help, we placed several hundred dogs during the years he was a member of my family. Last year there was a tragic accident. It wasn't carelessness or not thinking or caring but an accident. Silver got out. For five years I had him and it only took two or three seconds to lose the greatest dog I have ever had.

Trainers and owners have been kind to me. I now have two blue females--Iruska Sapphire and Duly's Nikki. They are great dogs and little beauties but there will always be a little sadness in our hearts and home when we think of Silver.

Thanks to all of you Homes for Hounds friends who were such great support during this period of grieving. He will always be loved--always be missed--but life goes on and someday when I approach Rainbow Bridge, I know he will be there waiting for me; and once more best of friends will be together again.

Rayetta Holder

There is a bridge connecting Heaven and Earth. It is called the Rainbow Bridge because of its many colors. Just this side of the Rainbow Bridge there is a land of meadows, hills and valleys with lush green grass.

When a beloved pet dies, the pet goes to this place. There is always food and water and warm spring weather. The old and frail animals are young again. Those who are maimed are made whole again. They play all day with each other.

There is only one thing missing. They are not with their special person who loved them on Earth. So each day they run and play until the day comes when one suddenly stops playing and looks up! The nose twitches! The ears are up! The eyes are staring! And this one suddenly runs from the group!

You have been seen, and when you and your special friend meet, you take him or her in your arms and embrace. Your face is kissed again and again and again, and you look once more into the eyes of your trusting pet.

Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together, never again to be separated.
